A Camera for a Cocktail
Standing on the private rooftop terrace of the ADA suite, atop the stunning Calile Hotel, the sun setting behind Brisbane’s beautiful city skyline, my camera felt heavy and foreign in my hands. The gorgeous setting, the décor, the light breeze and the first stars of the evening called me to swap my camera for a cocktail, adjust my posture to a casual lean against the balcony and to give in to the luxury holiday escape the setting provided. However this oasis on James Street, Fortitude Valley did not belong to this photographer but another. We were here to celebrate Jane’s 70th birthday and capture a few intimate family photos and I couldn’t have dreamed of a more perfect setting.
The seemingly effortless luxury of the Calile begs to be photographed, each way you turn another opportunity presents itself. But the real star was Jane, a former photographer herself and the loveliest person you’ll ever meet. Her radiant smile easily outshining the beautiful surrounds. It was easy to see why this amazing woman was so loved and adored by her family and friends and made my job a dream.
It was such a pleasure witnessing and immortalizing this beautiful family moment. While as photographers we might only get to meet and help celebrate a person briefly but the impact their love and family can have on us can last years. I hope our photos can do the same.
